The Greater Randolph Area Veterans Council: Honoring Service Through Tradition
For more than 50 years, a dedicated group of volunteers has worked behind the scenes to ensure one of South Texas’ most meaningful traditions continues to thrive.
The Greater Randolph Area Veterans Council (GRAVC) serves as the driving force behind the annual Veterans Day Parade, uniting veterans, civic leaders, businesses, school groups, and residents in a shared tribute to military service and sacrifice.
As a volunteer-led organization, the GRAVC is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing the annual Veterans Day Parade. Comprised of veterans from Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4676 and American Legion Posts 667 and 593, the council represents a united effort among local veteran organizations to preserve and strengthen a tradition that honors those who have served our nation.
Throughout the year, council members dedicate countless volunteer hours to organizing every aspect of the parade. From coordinating logistics and participant registration to arranging staging areas and ensuring smooth operations on parade day, GRAVC provides the foundation for an event that has become a cherished community tradition.
The council collaborates closely with the City of Universal City to promote the parade, coordinate community involvement, and support fundraising efforts. Local businesses, organizations, and sponsors play a vital role in sustaining and growing the event. And it couldn't happen without the support of the City's police, fire, and public works departments.
This year marks a significant milestone: it's the 56th year for the parade. Recognized as the longest-running Veterans Day Parade in the San Antonio region, this event stands as a testament to the dedication of volunteers and community members who believe deeply in honoring America’s veterans.
Each November, spectators gather to celebrate veterans of every generation, from World War II, Korea, and Vietnam to Gulf War and post-9/11 service members. Marching bands, military organizations, civic groups, youth organizations, and patriotic displays create an atmosphere of gratitude and remembrance throughout the community.
Behind every marching unit and waving flag is the unwavering commitment of GRAVC. Its mission extends beyond organizing a parade; they help preserve patriotism, community pride, and respect for those who have worn the nation’s uniform.
As preparations continue for the 56th Annual Veterans Day Parade, GRAVC welcomes community involvement through participation, sponsorships, and volunteer support.
We'd especially like to extend a special invitation to our schools and youth groups. It's a moment of pride we think they'll reflect on in the future. By investing in this enduring tradition, residents help ensure future generations continue to honor the men and women who have served with courage and distinction.

The City of Universal City now has a public service channel, UC TV Spectrum 1306, dedicated to showcasing community involvement, including events like the Veterans Day Parade. You don't need to have Spectrum to enjoy the parade coverage. Stay tuned to see the 2026 Parade, which will be posted a few days after the event.
